I had the opportunity to hear

I had the opportunity to hear Dr. Brown speak at the Indiana Association of School Principals Assistant Principals' conference. He was, without a doubt, the best speaker I have ever heard. So many times at keynote speakers are boring and you end up listening to a fraction of what is said. Dr. Brown really brought to the forefront the importance of not judging a book by its cover and looking at how we can change ourselves to better instruct and mold our students. -Jeff Bryne

Thank you for sharing. Kathy Proaps 10/28/2016

Hello Dr. Brown! First, I want to say thank you for being an inspiration to our young scholars at Ellison High School! Second, I want to thank you for inspiring me to move beyond where I am. You don’t know how much I needed to hear your inspiring and encouraging words you spoke to me. Thanks for all you do! Dear Dr. Brown, Today I

Dear Dr. Brown, Today I attended your presentation and I was truly moved. A year ago I was in treatment for cancer. It was an extremely frightening time of my life. There were a number of things that I could have let crush me but I chose to focus on the blessings and to see that the cancer world has a lot of positive things to offer, despite the despair. The lessons I learned during my chemo journey changed me for the better. I came away as a new person... kind of like the phoenix that rises from the ashes. Anyway, what I want to say is that my faith in humanity has been restored since my diagnosis. Today you brought my faith into an even brighter light. I see that the work that you are doing is so vital because people need to recognize that now, more than ever, is a time that we all need to come together to support each other, foster our family units and our communities with love. I appreciated your humor and your dancing. It brought so much joy to all of us today. Through chemo, I discovered that it is so very important to embrace laughter and to have fun. It is like a catalyst to open hearts and encourage us as teachers, students, parents, friends, neighbors and strangers, to accept each other for who we are and to support each other to change ourselves and our lives in the most positive way. To live in love and to be grateful for all the blessings we have each and every day... that it was I took away from your presentation. Thank you for reminding me of all these wonderful things. Thank you for doing the work that you do. I feel blessed to have had the opportunity today to hear your humor and your words of kindness. I am one month away from remission. I returned to work this past September and it feels marvelous. I feel like that new teacher you described. My life is good and I am grateful to be a part of my students' lives. Blessings to you and your family! Safe travels! (Please pardon any typos... I write this while doing Scooby and Shaggy voices for my three year old.) Dr. Brown, I just wanted to

Dr. Brown, I just wanted to drop you a note of thanks for your message and presentation yesterday at NCSA Administrator Days in Kearney. I mentioned to you briefly in the hallway while you were at your table that I've been to eight or so years of keynotes, you topped a number of very impressive speakers and messages that I had seen. Your message is direct, intense, entertaining and needed - for educators of all types from building custodians all the way up to school board members and state commissioners of education. I'm a high school assistant principal after spending 15 years in the classroom as a teacher and coach. I've been working on my doctorate - so that I might one day - after a tenure as high school principal, return to the university classroom to work with preservice teachers. I've been in a bit of a funk in my program over the last year (too far into the program to quit and not close enough to the end to see the light at the end of the tunnel). I know I've lost some focus and direction as I've let the job and outside distractions take over. I felt compelled to write this morning because I wanted to let you know that you have helped inspire me to get the fire re-ignited and get this project done! I've got an excellent outlook on the coming year and new-found focus to get after my program studies! I needed this. Thank you! R. Jon Frey Assistant Principal Columbus High School

In August 2009, Doc Brown

In August 2009, Doc Brown came to our teachers' kick off meeting for the school year. Before the afternoon session started, I saw him as he mingled around in his thug attire. I watched him get shut out of almost every attempt to connect with the teachers and administrators who were sharing their summertime stories. It was sad. That is, until he came by me. I stopped him, asked his name, if he was early for school, and to see if he needed anything. I took interest in him because he looked like many of the students I had in my class. He asked what I was doing, and I explained I was working on my classroom procedures for a smooth operating classroom, so students would know what to expect, and the teacher could focus on them and their learning, and not the rules. He said he thought that was a great idea, and then he had to go. You can imagine my surprise when they introduced Dr. Adolph Brown and he came running, I mean RUNNING, down the aisle through the auditorium, and leaped onto stage. Right then and there he openly acknowledged me, in front of all of my 400 peers. Not only was it a reinforcement for me, but a REAL eye-opener for the other staff who had shut him out earlier. I think it really made an impact on the way our teachers connected with students, and how teachers need to really take an interest in them. Doc really drove home his 10 points, one of which is, "Significant learning will not take place without a significant relationship." I know it reinforced what I do, and helped the others realize they needed to catch up to just where students really are today, by taking an interest in them. The lesson, and messages we got that day still live on, and I am forever grateful that I personally got to meet Doc Brown. I'll never forget it. Thanks x 1,000,000,000 Jeffrey Holt

I was present at the Head

I was present at the Head Start Region VII conference where you were a keynote speaker. What you had to say and the way you presented it was amazing. You gave many a feeling that what they do does matter and does affect many in some kind of positive way. I write this while doing Scooby and Shaggy voices for my three year old.) Thank you again, Wendy Gismondi Bradford School First Grade Teacher

Dr. Brown is an anomaly! He is thought-provoking while communicating with intellectual rigor and a robust sense of humor. Thank you for the journey. Ellison Charles, School Board Trustee
